TYPICAL PEDON: Holokukfamily very fine sandy loam - on a slope of 24 percent on a backslope of a hill at 449 feet elevation. (All colors are for moist soil unless noted)
Oi--0 to 7 inches (0 to 19 cm) dark brown (7.5YR 3/4) and dark brown (7.5YR 3/3)slightly decomposed plant material; many very fine, fine, and medium roots throughout; extremely acid, pH 4.2; clear smooth boundary.
A--7 to 11 inches (19 to 29 cm) dark brown (7.5YR 3/3) very fine sandy loam; moderate medium granular structure; friable, nonsticky, nonplastic; common very fine, fine, and medium roots; very strongly acid, pH 4.8; clear irregular boundary.
BW--11 to 16 inches (29 to 41 cm) dark yellowish brown (10YR 3/4) very fine sandy loam; weak medium subangular blocky structure; very friable, nonsticky, nonplastic; common very fine, fine, and medium roots; 3 percent gravel; moderately acid, pH 5.8; clear wavy boundary.
2BC--16 to 29 inches (41 to 73 cm) dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) very gravelly fine sandy loam; moderate medium subangular blocky parting to moderate fine granular structure; very friable, slightly sticky, slightly plastic; common very fine and fine roots; 10 percent cobble and 40 percent gravel; moderately acid, pH 6.0; gradual wavy boundary.
2C--29 to 60 inches (73 to 152 cm) fifty percent olive (5Y 4/3) and fifty percent dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) very cobbly fine sandy loam; massive parting to weak medium platy structure; friable, slightly sticky, slightly plastic; 5 percent medium dark gray (5Y 4/1)gley; 25 cobble and 30 percent gravel; slightly acid, pH 6.2.

GEOGRAPHIC SETTING:
Parent material: loess and colluvium
Landform: backslopes and shoulders of hills
Slope: 15 to 60 percent
Mean annual temperature: 28 to 30 degrees F.
Mean annual precipitation: 15 to 18 inches
GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These include Typic Dystrocryepts, Typic Haplocryolls, and Lithic Haplocryolls on similar landforms.
DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Moderately well to well drained. Medium to very high runoff. Permeability is moderate over moderately rapid.
USE AND VEGETATION: Used for subsistence and wildlife habitat. The native vegetation is typical of Boreal scrub, forest, and woodland; and Subalpine forest.
DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: MLRA 229 - Interior Alaska Lowlands; MLRA 230 - Yukon-Kuskokwim Highlands; and MLRA 238- Yukon-Kuskokwim Coastal Plain, Alaska. The soil is extensive.
