COMPETING SERIES: These are the, , Bohna, Chualar, Chuloak, Feethill, Franciscan, , Pinto, Shimmon, Soper, and Tajea series. Bohna soils are deeper than 40 inches and have an average of 30 inches of precipitation. Chualar and Chuloak soils are deeper than 40 inches and are formed in alluvium.. Feethill soils have less than 260 frost free days and formed in granite. Franciscan soils have less than 250 frost free days. Pinto soils are deeper than 40 inches. Shimmon soils have sandstone parent material and less than 240 frost free days. Soper soils have sandstone parent material. Tajea soils have a lithic sandstone. Tehachapi soils are deeper than 40 inches and are formed in alluvium on terraces and fans.

GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: Nauti soils formed in quartz-diorite on complex side slopes of interfluves of hills and mountains on islands. Slopes range from 45 to 75 percent. Elevations are from sea level to 1550 feet (0 to 472 meters). The climate is characterized by warm, dry summers and cool, moist winters with potential fog common all year. The mean annual precipitation is 13 to 24 inches (330 to 660 mm), the mean annual temperature is 61 to 73 degrees F. (16 to 23 degrees C.), and the frost free season is 355 days.

GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These are the Bosun, Oboship, Loadline, Flyer, Marpol and Express. Bosun soils are skeletal, Oboship soils are Pachic Argixerolls. Loadline soils are shallow and tend to be on convex positions like crests of interfluves. Flyer soils are coarse loamy. Express soils are coarse-loamy and predominately on the upper third slopes of interfluves, the do not have and argillic. Marpol soils are fine and slopes less than 45 percent. All these soils are found on hills and mountains.

DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Well drained; high runoff; rapid permeability.

USE AND VEGETATION: Wildlife habitat, recreation and building site development. Vegetation is predominately Coastal Sage Scrub and Non-native Scrub, Maritime Cactus Scrub and Coastal Bluff Scrub, Island Chaparral.
