TYPICAL PEDON: Windicreek very gravelly loam in an area of rangeland (Colors are for dry soil unless otherwise noted.)

A--0 to 8 cm; dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2) very gravelly loam, very dark brown (10YR 2/2) moist; weak fine subangular blocky structure parting to weak fine granular; soft, very friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; common very fine and fine and few medium roots; few very fine tubular pores; 40 percent gravel and 5 percent cobbles; neutral (pH 7.2); clear wavy boundary

Bw--8 to 23 cm; brown (10YR 4/3) gravelly loam, dark brown (10YR 3/3) moist; weak fine subangular blocky structure parting to weak fine granular; soft, very friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; common very fine and fine and few medium roots; few very fine tubular pores; 15 percent gravel and 5 percent cobbles; slightly alkaline (pH 7.4); clear smooth boundary

Bk1--23 to 53 cm; yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) gravelly sandy loam, dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) moist; weak very fine subangular blocky structure parting to weak fine granular; soft, friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; common very fine and fine roots; few very fine tubular pores; violently effervescent (15 percent calcium carbonate equivalent); finely disseminated calcium carbonates and few calcium carbonate coatings on rock fragments; 25 percent gravel and 5 percent cobbles; slightly alkaline (pH 7.8); abrupt wavy boundary

Bk2--53 to 127 cm; very pale brown (10YR 8/2) extremely gravelly sandy loam, grayish brown (2.5Y 5/2) moist; massive; soft, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; few very fine and fine roots; few very fine tubular pores; violently effervescent (25 percent calcium carbonate equivalent); finely disseminated calcium carbonates and many calcium carbonate coatings on rock fragments; 70 percent gravel and 10 percent cobbles; moderately alkaline (pH 8.4); clear wavy boundary

Bk3--127 to 157 cm; very pale brown (10YR 8/2) extremely gravelly sandy loam, light brownish gray (2.5Y 6/2) moist; massive; soft, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; few very fine and fine roots; few very fine tubular pores; violently effervescent (18 percent calcium carbonate equivalent); finely disseminated calcium carbonates throughout soil matrix and common calcium carbonate coatings on rock fragments; 60 percent gravel and 5 percent cobbles; strongly alkaline (pH 8.6)
