TYPICAL PEDON: Allhands gravelly loam in an area of rangeland (Colors are for dry soil unless otherwise noted.)

Ak--0 to 10 cm; very pale brown (10YR 7/3) gravelly loam, brown (10YR 4/3) moist; moderate thick platy structure; slightly hard, friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; common very fine roots; common very fine tubular pores; 15 percent gravel and 2 percent cobbles; slightly effervescent (40 percent calcium carbonate equivalent); moderately alkaline (pH 7.9); clear smooth boundary.

Bk--10 to 33 cm; light brownish gray (10YR 6/2) gravelly sandy loam, very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) moist; moderate fine subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; many very fine and fine roots; common very fine tubular pores; 35 percent gravel and 20 percent cobbles; calcium carbonate coatings on bottom of rock fragments; strongly effervescent (55 percent calcium carbonate equivalent); moderately alkaline (pH 7.9); clear smooth boundary.

Bkqm1--33 to 38 cm; very pale brown (10YR 8/2) strongly cemented duripan that has a continuous laminar cap less than 1 mm thick, grayish brown (10YR 5/2) moist; massive; very hard, very firm; 40 percent gravel and 45 percent cobbles; calcium carbonate coatings, silica coatings, and pendular calcium carbonate nodules on bottom of rock fragments; violently effervescent; moderately alkaline (pH 7.9); gradual wavy boundary.

Bkqm2--38 to 100 cm; light brownish gray (10YR 6/2) weakly cemented duripan consisting of extremely cobbly sandy loam, light grayish brown (10YR 5/2) moist; massive, hard, firm, nonsticky and nonplastic; common very fine and few fine and medium roots; common fine irregular pores; 45 percent gravel and 40 percent cobbles; calcium carbonate and silica coatings and pendants on bottom of rock fragments; violently effervescent (55 percent calcium carbonate equivalent); moderately alkaline (pH 8.2); gradual wavy boundary.

BCk--100 to 150 cm; light brownish gray (10YR 6/2) extremely cobbly loamy sand, very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) moist; massive, hard, firm, nonsticky and nonplastic; few very fine and fine roots; few fine irregular pores; 40 percent gravel and 40 percent cobbles; calcium carbonate coatings on bottom of rock fragments; strongly effervescent (40 percent calcium carbonate equivalent); moderately alkaline (pH 8.0).
