TYPICAL PEDON: Bonasilafamily silt loam - on a slope of 2 percent on a terrace at 215 feet elevation. (All colors are for moist soil unless noted)

Oe--0 to 2 inches (0 to 5 cm); moderately decomposed organic matter; many very fine, fine, and medium roots, common coarse roots; strongly acid, pH 5.6; abrupt wavy boundary.

E--2 to 4 inches (5 to 9 cm) very dark gray (10YR 3/1) very fine sandy loam; moderate very fine granular structure; friable, nonsticky, nonplastic; common very fine, fine, medium, and coarse roots; strongly acid, pH 5.2; abrupt wavy boundary.

Bw1--4 to 14 inches (9 to 36 cm); 30 percent dark brown (7.5YR 3/4) and 70 percent brown (10YR 4/3) very fine sandy loam; weak fine subangular blocky parting to weak fine granular structure; very friable, nonsticky, nonplastic; common very fine, fine, and medium roots, few coarse roots; slightly acid, pH 6.3; clear wavy boundary.

Bw2--14 to 30 inches (36 to 75 cm); 20 percent grayish brown (10YR 5/2) and 80 percent brown (10YR 4/3) very fine sandy loam; weak medium subangular blocky structure; very friable, nonsticky, nonplastic; few very fine and fine roots, common medium roots, few coarse roots; slightly acid, pH 6.3; clear wavy boundary.

C1--30 to 63 inches (75 to 160 cm); 10 percent light olive brown (2.5Y 5/3) and 90 percent olive brown (2.5Y 4/4) very fine sandy loam; massive; very friable, nonsticky, nonplastic; few very fine, fine roots, medium, and coarse roots; slightly acid, pH 6.2; gradual wavy boundary.

2C--63 to 75 inches, (160 to 190 cm); olive (5Y 5/3), fine sandy loam; massive; very friable, nonsticky, nonplastic; few very fine, fine, medium, and coarse roots; slightly acid, pH 6.5.

GEOGRAPHIC SETTING:
Parent material: loess, alluvium, and colluvium
Landform: floodplains, terraces, and hillslopes
Slope: 1 to 20 percent
Mean annual temperature: 28 to 30 degrees F.
Mean annual precipitation: 15 to 18 inches

GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These include Haplocryods on hillslopes and Histosols in depressional areas.

DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Well drained. Medium to high runoff. Permeability is moderate.

USE AND VEGETATION: Used for subsistence and wildlife habitat. The native vegetation is typical of Boreal scrub, forest, and woodland; and alpine scrub.

DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: MLRA 229 - Interior Alaska Lowlands; MLRA 230 - Yukon-Kuskokwim Highlands; and MLRA 238- Yukon-Kuskokwim Coastal Plain, Alaska. The soil is extensive.
