COMPETING SERIES: These are the
Acampo,
Charger,
Ironshot,

Charger soils occur in MLRA 17 with a climatic difference between mean summer and winter air temperatures of 30 degrees, and are moderately well drained. Ironshot soils are on fluviomarine terraces and have ironstone nodules. Pfeiffer soils have a paralithic contact below 40 inches. San Andreas and Walong soils have a paralithic contact between 20 and 40 inches. Tokay soils have Bt horizons and do not have a very gravelly substratum. Veritas soils have duripans below 40 inches.
GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: Caninecreek soils are on floodplains and alluvial fans. Slopes are 1 to 5 percent. These soils formed in alluvium weathered from mixed rock sources. Elevation is 60 to 220 feet. Mean annual precipitation is 14 to 18 inches. The mean annual temperature is 58 to 62 degrees F. Mean winter temperature is about 51 degrees F. and Mean summer temperatures is about 69 degrees F. The difference between mean summer and mean winter temperatures is about 18 degrees. Frost free season is 275 to 325 days.
GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These are the
Elder and
Elpaloalto soils. The Elder soils have a mollic epipedon more than 50 cm thick and do not have a very gravelly substratum, and the Elpaloalto soils have fine-silty textural control sections.
DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Well drained; moderately rapid permeability. The soils are rarely flooded for short periods in December through February.
USE AND VEGETATION: This soil is used for recreation, watershed and wildlife habitat. Vegetation is cottonwood, willow, oak and annual grasses and forbs.
DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: The soils are inextensive and are mapped in Santa Clara county. Major Land Resource Area: 14 -- Central California Coastal Valleys
