They are on fan piedmonts, fan remnants, and beach plains. Slopes are 0 to 30 percent. The mean annual precipitation is about 250 mm and the mean annual temperature is about 12 degrees C.

Bqkm2--41 to 66 cm; light gray (10YR 7/2) cemented material, pale brown (10YR 6/3) moist; 40 percent gravel and 10 percent cobbles; strongly cemented duripan; violently effervescent; very strongly alkaline (pH 9.1); clear wavy boundary. (18 to 124 cm thick)

Bqk--66 to 152 cm; very pale brown (10YR 7/3) discontinuous strongly to weakly silica cemented very gravelly sandy loam, yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) moist; massive; slightly hard, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common fine interstitial pores; 45 percent gravel, 10 percent cobbles; violently effervescent; very strongly alkaline (pH 9.1).

COMPETING SERIES: These are the Argalt, Bigfrog, Bruncan, Chuska, Colthorp, Dewar, Grassval, Handpah, Minu, Packwood, Pipeline, Roseworth, Roval, Thoms, and Wellington series.

Argalt, Bruncan, Colthorp, and Packwood soils have bedrock within 100 cm. Handpah, Minu and Roval soils have a duripan at a depth of 36 to 50 cm. Bigfrog soils have a mean annual soil temperature of 8 to 11 degrees C. and a frost free period of 80 to 100 days. Chuska soils have bedrock at 100 to 150 cm and soil temperature of less than 10 degrees C. Dewar and Grassval soils lack durinodes, are not moist for 10 to 20 days in summer, and have mean annual soil temperature of less than 10 degrees C. Pipeline and Roseworth soils have less than 15 percent fine sand or coarser in the Bt horizon and are silt loam or silty clay loam. Thoms and Wellington soils are slightly acid or neutral above the duripan and are not moist for 10 to 20 days in the summer.

GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: Chuckridge soils are on fan piedmonts, fan remnants and beach plains. These soils formed in alluvium derived predominantly from basalt, rhyolite and rhyolitic tuffs. Slopes are 0 to 30 percent. Elevations are 1,295 to 2,135 meters. The mean annual temperature ranges from 10 to 12 degrees C, mean annual precipitation ranges from 200 to 300 mm, and the frost-free season is 100 to 130 days.

GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: This is the Crunker series. Crunker soils lack an argillic horizon and a duripan.

DRAINAGE AND SATURATED HYDRAULIC CONDUCTIVITY: Well drained; low through high runoff; moderately high saturated hydraulic conductivity.

USE AND VEGETATION: The Chuckridge soils are used for livestock grazing and wildlife habitat. The present vegetation is mainly black sagebrush, Nevada ephedra, Bailey greasewood, spiny hopsage, bottlebrush squirreltail, Sandberg bluegrass and galleta.

DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: West-central Nevada. These soils are not extensive. MLRA 27, 28B, 28A and 29.
