CUJOB SERIES

The Cujob series consists of very deep, very poorly drained soils that formed in mixed alluvium. These soils are on mountain slumps and depressions. Slopes are 1 to 25 percent. Mean annual precipitation is about 25 inches, and mean annual air temperature is about 38 degrees F.

TAXONOMIC CLASS: Loamy-skeletal, mixed, superactive Cumulic Cryaquolls

TYPICAL PEDON: Cujob mucky silt loam, 1 to 25 percent slopes, in wet meadow rangeland. (Colors are for moist soil unless otherwise noted.)

A--0 to 4 inches; black (10YR 2/1) mucky silt loam, very dark gray (10YR 3/1) dry; weak fine granular structure; slightly hard, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; many very fine, and fine roots; many very fine and fine discontinous pores; 5 percent pebbles; slightly alkaline (pH 7.6); clear wavy boundary. (3 to 5 inches thick)

Bw1--4 to 11 inches; black (10YR 2/1) mucky loam, very dark gray (7.5YR 3/1) dry; moderate medium subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, very friable, slightly sticky and nonplastic; common very fine and few medium roots; common very fine and fine discontinous pores; 10 percent pebbles; slightly alkaline (pH 7.6); clear wavy boundary. (6 to 12 inches thick)

Bw2--11 to 21 inches; black (7.5YR 2/1) very gravelly loam, dark gray (7.5YR 4/1) dry; few fine prominent yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) and light yellowish brown (10YR 6/4) dry redox concentrations; moderate medium subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, very friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; common very fine and few fine roots; common very fine and few fine discontinous pores; 10 percent cobbles and 30 percent pebbles; slightly alkaline (pH 7.8); gradual wavy boundary. (8 to 11 inches thick)

C1--21 to 33 inches; reddish brown (5YR 5/4) very cobbly clay loam, light brown (7.5YR 6/3) dry; few fine distinct yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) and light yellowish brown (10YR 6/4) dry redox concentrations; massive; hard, friable, moderately sticky and moderately plastic; few very fine roots; few very fine discontinous pores; 20 percent cobbles and 30 percent pebbles; moderately alkaline (pH 8.3). (10 to 15 inches thick).

C2--33 to 60 inches; reddish brown (5YR 5/4) very cobbly clay loam, brown (7.5YR 5/3) dry; few fine distinct yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) and light yellowish brown (10YR 6/4) dry redox concentrations; massive; hard, friable, moderately sticky and moderately plastic; 25 percent cobbles and 35 percent pebbles; moderately alkaline (pH 8.3).

MLRA SOIL SURVEY REGIONAL OFFICE (MO) RESPONSIBLE: Bozeman, Montana

SERIES ESTABLISHED: Deer Lodge County, Montana, 1999.

REMARKS: Soil interpretation record MT1761. Diagnostic horizons and features recognized in this pedon are: a mollic epipedon from the surface to 21 inches (A, Bw1, Bw2 horizons); a particle size control section from 10 to 40 inches (Bw1, Bw2, C1, C2 horizons). Cujo soils have a cryic temperature regime and an aquic moisture regime.
