(3 to 10 cm thick)

2Bqkm2--58 to 71 cm; light gray (10YR 7/1) strongly cemented duripan, pale brown (10YR 6/3) and brown (10YR 4/3) moist; massive; very hard, very firm, nonsticky and nonplastic; few very fine tubular pores; strongly effervescent; strongly alkaline (pH 8.6); clear smooth boundary. (10 to 18 cm thick)

COMPETING SERIES: This is the Golconda series. Golconda soils have mean annual soil temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees C.

GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: Dalzell soils are on lake terraces at elevations of 1,220 to 1,555 meters. Slopes are 0 to 15 percent. The soils formed in mixed lacustrine materials. The climate is cool, semiarid with an annual precipitation of about 150 to 200 mm. The mean annual temperature is 10 to 11 degrees C., and the mean summer temperature is 18 to 20 degrees C. The frost free season is about 100 to 120 days.

GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These are the Obanion, Wedertz and Wellington soils. Obanion soils are saturated and lack natric horizons. Wedertz soils lack natric horizon and strongly cemented duripan. Wellington soils lack a natric horizon and have an indurated duripan.

DRAINAGE AND SATURATED HYDRAULIC CONDUCTIVITY: Somewhat poorly drained; medium or slow runoff, or ponded; moderately high saturated hydraulic conductivity.

USE AND VEGETATION: Used primarily for livestock grazing and wildlife habitat. The vegetation is principally black greasewood, rubber rabbitbrush, shadscale and saltgrass.

DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: Valleys in western Nevada. MLRA 26. They are of small extent.

MLRA SOIL SURVEY REGIONAL OFFICE (MO) RESPONSIBLE: Davis, California

SERIES ESTABLISHED: Lyon County (Physical Survey of Mason Valley SCD), Nevada, 1940. The series was inactive from 1962 through 1972 and was returned to the active list in 1973.

REMARKS: This soil has a somewhat poorly drained drainage class, but no mention in soil moisture about depth of water table. Does this soil meet the aquic requirement? Needs to be evaluated during MLRA update.
