TYPICAL PEDON: Goddens strand muck in a forested Cypress Strand. (Colors are for moist soil unless otherwise stated.)

Oa--0 to 15 centimeters (0 to 6 inches); black (7.5YR 2.5/1) muck; 20 percent unrubbed fiber, 5 percent rubbed; weak fine subangular blocky structure; very friable, soft; nonsticky, nonplastic; many fine and common medium roots throughout; neutral; clear smooth boundary. [5 to 38 centimeters (2 to 15 inches) thick]

A1--15 to 51 centimeters (6 to 20 inches); black (7.5YR 2.5/1) mucky fine sandy loam, dark gray (7.5YR 4/1), dry; weak fine granular structure; very friable, soft; nonsticky, nonplastic; common fine roots throughout; neutral; clear smooth boundary.

A2--51 to 81 centimeters (20 to 32 inches); black (7.5YR 2.5/1) mucky fine sandy loam, dark gray (7.5YR 4/1), dry; weak fine and medium angular blocky structure; very friable, soft; slightly sticky, slightly plastic; neutral; clear wavy boundary. [18 to 76 centimeters (7 to 30 inches) thick]

Btg--81 to 102 centimeters (32 to 40 inches); dark gray (7.5YR 4/1) sandy clay loam; moderate fine and medium angular blocky structure; slightly sticky and slightly plastic; common distinct very dark gray (7.5YR 3/1) clay films on ped faces; slightly alkaline; clear wavy boundary. [15 to 61 centimeters (6 to 24 inches) thick]

Btkg1--102 to 122 centimeters (40 to 48 inches); gray (5Y 5/1) sandy clay loam; moderate medium angular blocky structure; slightly sticky and slightly plastic; common distinct dark gray (5Y 4/1) clay films on ped faces; common fine distinct yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) masses of oxidized iron accumulation throughout; strongly effervescent; moderately alkaline; gradual wavy boundary.

Btkg2--122 to 137 centimeters (48 to 54 inches); gray (5Y 6/1) gravelly sandy clay loam; moderate medium angular blocky structure; slightly sticky and slightly plastic; common distinct dark gray (5Y 4/1) clay films on ped faces; common fine distinct yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) masses of oxidized iron accumulation throughout; strongly effervescent; moderately alkaline; gradual wavy boundary. [20 to 76 centimeters (8 to 30 inches) thick]

2R--137 centimeters (54 inches); strongly cemented to indurated limestone bedrock; solution holes up to 102 centimeters (40 inches) or deeper can be filled with sandy and/or loamy material.

TYPE LOCATION: Collier County, Florida; about 1.1 miles north of I75, and 0.8 miles east of the L28 canal; about 1455 feet west and 470 feet north of the southeast corner of sec. 25, T. 49 S. R. 34 E.; Latitude 26 degrees, 11 minutes, 18.4 seconds N, Longitude 80 degrees, 53 minutes, 1.4 seconds W; WGS84; USGS California Slough, FL quadrangle.

GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS:
Hallandale soils lack argillic horizons, have bedrock at depths less than 51 centimeters (20 inches), and occur on slightly higher landform positions.
Lostmans soils lack argillic horizons, have bedrock at depths less than 51 centimeters (20 inches), and occur on slightly higher landform positions.
Tarpans soils have bedrock at depths less than 102 centimeters (40 inches) and occur on similar landform positions.
Rattlesnake Ridge soils have mollic epipedons, lack argillic horizons, have bedrock at depths less than 51 centimeters (20 inches), and occur on higher landform positions.
Perrine soils consists of limnic soil materials and limestone rock at 50 to 100 centimeters (20 to 40 inches).

DRAINAGE AND SATURATED HYDRAULIC CONDUCTIVITY:
Drainage class: very poorly drained.
Saturated hydraulic conductivity (KSAT): moderately low to low throughout.
Permeability: slow to very slow throughout.
Runoff: negligible to very low.
Depth to seasonal high-water table: 0 to 15 centimeters (0 to 6 inches) of the surface.
Surface Water: can range from 15 to 122 centimeters (6 to 48 inches) during the raining season (June to November). During the months of December and January surface water can range from 15 to 91 centimeters (6 to 36 inches). During the dry season February to May surface water ranges from 15 to 76 centimeters (6 to 30 inches).

USE AND VEGETATION:
Major uses: water quality and wildlife habitat.
Dominant vegetation: These include but are not limited to Jamaica swamp sawgrass (Cladium jamaicense), maidencane (Panicum hemitomon), Muhlenberg maidencane (Amphicarpum muelenbergianum), pickerelweed (Pontederia cordata), bulltongue arrowhead (Sagittaria lancifolia), bent alligator-flag (Thalia geniculate), pond cypress (Taxodium ascendens), bald cypress (T. distichem), swamp bay (Persea palustris), pond apple (Annona glabra), and red maple (Acer rubrum). Vines (Similax), ferns (Blechnum, Woodwardia), and arboreal epiphytes (Tillandsia) are abundant. Aquatic emergent vegetation (Nymphaea, Utricularia, Lemna) may be present during periods of high water.
