Ap--0 to 10 cm (0 to 4 inches); dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) silt loam; light olive brown (2.5Y 5/4) dry; moderate medium subangular blocky parting to strong coarse granular; friable; moderately sticky; moderately plastic; common fine and very fine and few medium roots throughout; common fine tubular pores; trace subrounded mixed gravel; very strongly acid; clear smooth boundary. (0 to 18 cm thick)

Bw--10 to 48 cm (4 to 19 inches); yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) silt loam; strong coarse prismatic structure parting to moderate medium subangular blocky; friable; slightly sticky; moderately plastic; few very fine, very few fine and few medium roots throughout; very few medium and coarse vesicular pores; many medium and coarse faint light olive brown (2.5Y 5/3) irregular iron depletions; common medium distinct very pale brown (10YR 8/3) clay depletions on faces of peds; common medium and coarse prominent yellowish red (5YR 5/8) irregular iron-manganese masses throughout; very strongly acid; abrupt wavy boundary. (15 to 51 cm thick)

Bg1--48 to 64 cm (19 to 25 inches); 50 percent gray (10YR 6/1) very fine sandy loam and 40 percent reddish yellow (5YR 6/8) loamy very fine sand; weak coarse prismatic structure; very friable; slightly sticky; nonplastic; few fine and medium roots throughout; very few medium tubular and vesicular pores; very strongly acid; abrupt smooth boundary.

Bg2--64 to 76 cm (25 to 30 inches); 70 percent light gray (2.5Y 7/1) fine sand and 15 percent gray (2.5Y 5/1) loamy fine sand; single grain; loose; nonsticky; nonplastic; very few very fine and fine roots; very few fine vesicular pores; common fine and medium prominent yellowish red (5YR 5/8) iron-manganese masses; few fine fragments of charcoal; few fine mica flakes; very strongly acid; abrupt smooth boundary.

Bg3--76 to 97 cm (30 to 38 inches); gray (2.5Y 5/1) fine sandy loam, weak coarse prismatic structure; friable; nonsticky; nonplastic; very few very fine roots; very few fine vesicular pores; common medium prominent rounded yellowish red (5YR 5/8) iron-manganese masses; trace charcoal; very strongly acid; abrupt smooth boundary.

Bg4--97 to 107 cm (38 to 42 inches); light gray (2.5Y 7/2) fine sand; single grain; loose; nonsticky; nonplastic; common fine prominent rounded strong brown (7.5YR 5/8) iron-manganese masses; few fine mica flakes; very strongly acid; abrupt smooth boundary.

Bg5--107 to 147 cm (42 to 58 inches); stratified 50 percent gray (2.5Y 6/1) loamy fine sand, 25 percent gray (2.5Y 5/1) loam and 25 percent gray (2.5Y 6/1) fine sand; loamy fine sand and loam parts have weak coarse prismatic structure; very friable; fine sand part is single grain; loose; nonsticky, nonplastic; very few very fine tubular pores; common fine prominent dendritic red (2.5YR 4/8) iron-manganese masses; extremely acid; abrupt smooth boundary. (combined thickness of the Bg horizons is 25 to 127 cm thick)

2Ab--147 to 178 cm (58 to 70 inches); dark gray (2.5Y 4/1) loam; weak coarse prismatic structure; friable; slightly sticky; moderately plastic; common decomposed medium and coarse roots; hydrogen sulfide odor; very strongly acid.

TYPE LOCATION: Prince Georges, MD; about 7.15 miles north-northeast of Aquasco, 1.8 miles south of Nottingham, 0.95 miles north of White Landing, 1.25 miles east-northeast of the intersection of MD Route 382 Croom Road and River Airport Road. USGS Lower Marlboro topographic quadrangle; Lat. 38 degrees, 41 minutes, 2.02 seconds N. and Long. 76 degrees, 42 minutes, 5.05 seconds W., NAD 83.

RANGE IN CHARACTERISTICS:
Depth to the top of the Cambic: 8 to 25 cm (3 to 10 inches)
Depth to the bottom of the Cambic: 25 to 102 cm (10 to 40 inches)
Solum Thickness: 51 to 183 cm (20 to 72 inches)
Depth to Bedrock: Greater than 183 cm (72 inches)
Depth to Seasonal High Water Table: 25 to 51 cm (10 to 20 inches), November to May
Rock Fragments: 0 to 15 percent, by volume, in the A and Bw horizons; 0 to 60 in the Bg horizon

Where wooded--sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua), ash (Fraxinus spp.), sycamore (Platanus occidentalis), red maple (Acer rubrum), American holly (Ilex opaca), loblolly pine and shortleaf pine, spicebush (Lindera benzoin), greenbrier (Smilax spp.).

REMARKS: Issue soils were previously mapped as Iuka, Bibb and Mixed Alluvial miscellaneous areas.
Diagnostic horizons and soil characteristics recognized in this pedon are:
Ochric epipedon--the zone from 0 to 10 cm (Ap horizon)
Cambic horizon--the zone from 10 to 51 cm (Bw and Bg1 horizons) Aquic conditions--the soil has redox depletions and concentrations within 60 cm of the soil surface, with periodic saturation and reduction at some time during the year
Other soil features identified with this pedon: Irregular organic matter distribution throughout the profile
