(3 to 8 inches thick)

Bw2--7 to 16 inches; brown (10YR 5/3) loam, dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2) moist; moderate fine subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, firm, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; common fine and very fine roots; common fine and medium tubular and few fine and medium irregular pores; 10 percent rounded gravel; neutral (pH 7.0); abrupt wavy boundary. (0 to 14 inches thick)

2Bt--16 to 31 inches; brown (7.5YR 5/4) clay loam, dark brown (7.5YR 4/4) moist; moderate medium and coarse prismatic structure; very hard, very firm, very sticky and very plastic; few very fine and fine roots; few very fine tubular pores; continuous faint clay films on faces of peds; 5 percent rounded gravel; neutral (pH 7.0); abrupt wavy boundary. (10 to 20 inches thick)

2Btk--31 to 40 inches; brown (7.5YR 5/4) cobbly sandy clay loam, dark brown (7.5YR 4/4) moist; moderate medium and coarse subangular blocky structure; very hard, very firm, sticky and plastic; few very fine and fine roots; few very fine and fine tubular pores; discontinuous faint clay films on faces of peds; 10 percent rounded gravel, 20 percent rounded cobbles; few fine veins and splotches of calcium carbonate; 5 percent calcium carbonate equivalent; neutral (pH 7.1); abrupt smooth boundary. (0 to 15 inches thick)

2Bk--40 to 55 inches; reddish yellow (7.5YR 6/6) gravelly sandy loam, brown (7.5YR 5/4) moist; massive; slightly hard, friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; few very fine and fine roots; common very fine tubular pores; few very fine and fine pores in voids between rock fragments; common fine veins and splotches of calcium carbonate; 15 percent rounded gravel; strongly effervescent (10 percent calcium carbonate equivalent); moderately alkaline (pH 7.7); abrupt wavy boundary. (6 to 20 inches thick)

2Bkqm--55 to 67 inches; reddish yellow (7.5YR 7/6) indurated duripan, pink (7.5YR 8/4) moist; massive; continuous laminar cap is 0.5 to 2 mm thick; thickest caps coincide with layers containing the highest percentage of gravel; 30 percent rounded embedded gravel; violently effervescent.

COMPETING SERIES: These are the Buncelvoir (T), Diaz (T), Dryvalley (T), Farmell, Glasgow, Lanktree, Oppio, Risley, Schamp, and Trunk series. Buncelvoir soils have a calcic horizon. Diaz, Glasgow, Oppio, Risley, and Trunk soils have bedrock above 40 inches. Dryvalley soils lack secondary carbonate accumulations. Farmwell soils lack a duripan. Lanktree soils have an E horizon and lack a duripan. Schamp soils lack a duripan and are strongly or very strongly alkaline in the Bk horizon.

GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: Linkletter soils are on rounded hills and terraces. Slopes range from 8 to 25 percent. The soils formed in older alluvium that has some loess influence in the upper part. Elevation ranges from 3,400 to 3,900 feet. The average annual precipitation is 9 to 11 inches, including 1.5 to 3 feet of snowfall and the average annual temperature is 48 to 51 degrees F. Frost-free period is 100 to 120 days.

GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These are the Chilcott, Elijah, Purdam, and Vickery soils. Chilcott, Elijah, Purdam, and Vickery soils have a duripan above 40 inches. These soils are on landscape positions similar to the Linkletter soil.

DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Well drained; medium to rapid runoff; slow permeability.

USE AND VEGETATION: Used mainly for rangeland. The dominant native plant community is Wyoming big sagebrush and bluebunch wheatgrass.

DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: The series is located in southcentral Idaho. The series has limited extent.
