Ap--0 to 15 cm; clay loam, dark gray (N 4/0) dry, black (10YR 2/1) moist; moderate medium angular blocky structure; very hard, friable, moderately sticky and moderately plastic; many very fine roots; many very fine pores; slightly effervescent; strongly alkaline (pH 8.7); abrupt smooth boundary

Akn--15 to 35 cm; silty clay, gray (N 5/0) dry, black (N 2/0) moist; common fine grayish brown mottles; moderate medium angular blocky structure; very hard, very firm, very sticky and very plastic; common very fine roots; common very fine tubular pores; continuous stress cutans on ped surfaces; strongly effervescent; very strongly alkaline (pH 9.1); clear smooth boundary

Bkn1--35 to 53 cm; clay loam, gray (N 6/0) dry, black (10YR 2/1) moist; many medium dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2) mottles; moderate fine angular blocky structure; very hard, firm, moderately sticky and moderately plastic; common very fine roots; common fine and very fine tubular pores; strongly effervescent; strongly alkaline (pH 8.8); clear smooth boundary

Bkn2--53 to 109 cm; clay loam, gray (N 6/0) dry, very dark grayish brown (2.5Y 3/2) moist; common medium dark grayish brown (2.5Y 4/2) mottles; massive; hard, firm, moderately sticky and moderately plastic; few very fine roots; many fine and very fine tubular pores; strongly effervescent; strongly alkaline (pH 8.8); clear smooth boundary

Bk--109 to 163 cm; clay loam, light gray (10YR 7/1) dry, very dark grayish brown (2.5Y 3/2) moist; common medium dark grayish brown (2.5Y 4/2) mottles; massive; very hard, firm, moderately sticky and moderately plastic; few very fine roots; many fine and very fine tubular pores; strongly effervescent; moderately alkaline (pH 8.4)

TYPE LOCATION: Klamath County, Oregon; south end of Poe Valley; 640 m east and 490 m south of the northwest corner of section 35, T. 39 S., R. 11.5 E., Willamette Meridian; Bonanza, Oregon USGS 7.5 Minute Topographic Quadrangle; latitude 42.14705 degrees north, longitude 121.4986 degrees west, datum WGS 84 (coordinates derived from topographic map legal description)

GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS:
Bedner--on nearly level terraces; nonsodic; duripan at 50 to 100 cm
Calder-- on nearly level low terraces; nonsodic; ochric epipedon; duripan at 25 to 50 cm
Hosley--on low terraces; duripan at 50 to 100 cm
Lakeview--on flood plains, alluvial fans, and stream terraces; moderately well drained; nonsodic; average 25 to 35 percent clay
Pit--on flood plains and in basins; nonsodic; slickensides
Scherrard--on low terraces; duripan at 50 to 100 cm

DRAINAGE AND SATURATED HYDRAULIC CONDUCTIVITY:
Drainage class--poorly drained
Saturation in normal years--water table is at a depth of 0 to 120 cm from March to June (spring snowmelt period), and is above 50 cm for some time during those months
Ponding--frequent, long; December through May; up to 30 cm deep
