TYPICAL PEDON: Mariel peat on a 1-percent slope

Oe1--0 to 18 cm; mucky peat, black (10YR 2/1) moist; about 100 percent unrubbed fibers, 40 percent rubbed; many very fine, fine, and medium roots; strongly acid (pH 5.4); gradual smooth boundary (18 to 25 cm thick)

Oe2--18 to 36 cm; mucky peat, very dark brown (10YR 2/2) moist; about 90 percent unrubbed fibers, 30 percent rubbed; many very fine and fine roots; strongly acid (pH 5.4); clear wavy boundary (18 to 38 cm thick)

Oe3--36 to 86 cm; mucky peat, very dark gray (10YR 3/1) moist; about 60 percent unrubbed fibers, 25 percent rubbed; many very fine roots; strongly acid (pH 5.4); clear smooth boundary (33 to 58 cm thick)

Oa--86 to 150 cm; muck, very dark brown (10YR 2/2) moist; about 40 percent unrubbed fibers, 10 percent rubbed; many very fine roots; strongly acid (pH 5.2)

TYPE LOCATION: Jefferson County, Oregon, in Boulder Creek Meadows about 6 km southeast of Olallie Butte, in Warm Springs Indian Reservation; about 920 m west and 90 m north of the southeast corner of section 8, T. 9 S., R. 9 E.; latitude 44.797370, longitude -121.696580, datum WGS 84 (coordinates estimated from PLSS description)

6/2016--This official series description was updated according to SSR01 Technical Note-Content and Format of Official Series Descriptions (revised 12/2015). The fen landform was added, and the type location was moved from the original PLSS location about 60 m south to an area of nonshrubby meadow vegetation.
