TYPICAL PEDON: Minya silt loam - on a slope of 8 percent under white mountain avens-mixed ericaceous shrub dwarf alpine scrub. (All colors are for moist soil)

Oi--0 to 1 inches (0 to 3 cm); very dusky red (2.5YR 2.5/2) slightly decomposed plant material; many very fine and fine and few medium roots; extremely acid (pH 4.0); clear smooth boundary.

A--1 to 2 inches (3 to 5 cm); very dark brown (10YR 2/2) silt loam; weak thin platy structure; very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; many very fine and fine and few medium roots; extremely acid (pH 4.2); clear wavy boundary.

E--2 to 3 inches (5 to 8 cm); dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2) silt loam; weak fine subangular blocky structure; very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common very fine and fine roots; 2 percent gravel; very strongly acid (pH 4.8); abrupt irregular boundary.

2Bs--3 to 8 inches (8 to 20 cm); strong brown (7.5YR 4/6) very cobbley loam; moderate very fine granular structure; friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; few very fine and fine roots; 20 percent gravel, 15 percent cobbles, 2 percent stones; strongly acid (pH 5.4); gradual wavy boundary.

2BC--8 to 17 inches (20 to 43 cm); dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/6) very cobbly loam; massive; friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; few very fine and fine roots; 10 percent gravel, 25 percent cobbles, 2 percent stones; strongly acid (pH 5.4); abrupt wavy boundary.

2R--17 to 60 inches (43 to 152 cm); fractured bedrock.

COMPETING SERIES: There are the no competing series in this classification.

GEOGRAPHIC SETTING:
Landforms: mountains
Parent material: silty eolian deposits over colluvium and/or gravelly till
Elevation: 2,546 to 5,295 feet (776 to 1,614 m)
Slope: 2 to 65 percent
Annual precipitation: 25 to 52 inches (623 to 1,310 mm)
Annual temperature: 25 degrees F (-4 degrees C)
