TYPICAL PEDON: Muscott extremely gravelly sandy loam on a forested alluvial terrace with a slope of 1 percent and an elevation of 190 m. (The soil was moist throughout when described.)

Oi--0 to 2 cm; slightly decomposed plant material; abrupt wavy boundary

A--2 to 11 cm; dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2) dry, very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2); extremely gravelly sandy loam; weak fine granular structure; soft, very friable, non-sticky, non-plastic; many very fine roots; common very fine and fine interstitial pores and few very fine irregular pores; 65 percent gravel, very strongly acid (pH 4.9); abrupt smooth boundary

BC--11 to 32 cm; gray (10YR 5/1) dry, very dark gray (10YR 3/1); extremely gravelly loamy sand; single grain structure; loose, non-sticky, non-plastic; many very fine and few fine and medium roots; common very fine and fine interstitial pores and few very fine irregular pores; 70 percent gravel, very strongly acid (pH 5.1); abrupt wavy boundary

C--32 to 150 cm; gray (10YR 5/1) dry, very dark gray (10YR 3/1); extremely gravelly loamy sand; single grain structure; loose, non-sticky, non-plastic; few very fine and fine roots; many very fine and fine and common medium interstitial pores and few very fine irregular pores; 40 percent gravel, 30 percent cobbles, 10 percent stones; very strongly acid (pH 5.3)
