COMPETING SERIES: McCrory is the only series in this family.
GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: McCrory soils are on level to nearly level Holocene terraces in the Western Lowlands of northeast Arkansas in the lower Mississippi Valley; MLRA 131. The soil formed in loamy alluvium. Average annual temperature at the type location is 61 degrees F. The average annual precipitation is about 50 inches.
GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These include the
Bonn,
Bosket,
Foley,
Lafe, and
Tuckerman series. Bonn, Foley and Lafe are on higher terraces and in a fine-silty family. Bosket and Tuckerman soils do not have natric horizons.
DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Poorly drained. Runoff is negligible to low. Permeability is moderately slow. An apparent seasonal water table is within 1 foot of the soil surface during the winter and early spring most years.
USE AND VEGETATION: Much of the soil has been cleared and is used for rice, cotton, and soybeans. Minor areas are in pasture. Native vegetation consists of hardwoods such as oaks, gum, hackberry, and elm.
DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: Lower Mississippi Valley, mainly in Arkansas and Missouri, and possibly Louisiana. MLRA 131. The series is of moderate extent.
SOIL SURVEY REGIONAL OFFICE (SSRO) RESPONSIBLE: AUBURN, ALABAMA
SERIES ESTABLISHED: Woodruff County, Arkansas; 1966.
REMARKS: Diagnostic horizons and features recognized in this pedon are:
