TAXONOMIC CLASS: Ashy, glassy Aquandic Dystrocryepts

TYPICAL PEDON: Narada ashy very fine sandy loam on a forested flood plain with a slope of 4 percent and at an elevation of 775 m (When described on May 16, 2012, the soil was moist throughout.)

Oe--0 to 3 cm; moderately decomposed plant material; common very fine and fine and few medium and coarse roots; very strongly acid (pH 4.5); clear wavy boundary

A--3 to 7 cm; ashy very fine sandy loam, dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2) dry, very dark brown (10YR 2/2) moist; weak fine subangular blocky structure; soft, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; few very fine to coarse roots; common fine irregular pores; 5 percent fine gravel; strongly acid (pH 5.4); clear wavy boundary

AB--7 to 51 cm; ashy coarse sandy loam, gray (10YR 5/1) dry, very dark gray (10YR 3/1) moist; weak fine subangular blocky structure; soft, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; few very fine roots; common fine irregular pores; strongly acid (pH 5.4); abrupt smooth boundary

Bw--51 to 75 cm; ashy coarse sandy loam, dark gray (10YR 4/1) dry, black (10YR 2/1) moist; weak fine subangular blocky structure; soft, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; few very fine roots; common fine irregular pores; 5 percent dark reddish brown (5YR 3/4) masses of oxidized iron with diffuse boundaries along root channels; strongly acid (pH 5.4); abrupt smooth boundary

Bg1--75 to 90 cm; ashy loamy very fine sand, dark gray (10YR 4/1) dry, black (10YR 2/1) moist; weak fine subangular blocky structure; soft, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; few very fine roots; common fine interstitial pores; 5 percent dark reddish brown (5YR 3/4) masses of oxidized iron with diffuse boundaries along root channels and 2 percent gray (10YR 6/1) iron depletions in matrix; strongly acid (pH 5.4); abrupt wavy boundary

TYPE LOCATION: Pierce County, Washington, about 3.3 km north of Washington State Route 706, along West Side Road in Mount Rainier National Park; about 285 m north and 60 m west of the southeast corner of section 23, T. 14 N., R. 7 E., Willamette Meridian; Mount Wow, Washington, U.S. Geological Survey quadrangle; latitude 46.76694 degrees north, longitude -121.87720 degrees west, datum WGS 84 (coordinates determined with a GPS)
