TYPICAL PEDON: Nulatohills silt loam on an east-southeast facing linear, linear backslope on a hill, on a slope of 30 percent at an elevation of 454 m (The soil was moist throughout when described on August 4, 2019.)

Oe--0 to 5 cm; moderately decomposed plant material, dark gray (7.5YR 4/1) dry, black (7.5YR 2.5/1) moist; nonsmeary; common very fine, fine, medium, and coarse roots throughout ; extremely acid (pH 3.6); clear smooth boundary

A--5 to 30 cm; medial silt loam, brown (7.5YR 4/2) dry, very dark brown (7.5YR 2.5/2) moist; weak coarse subangular blocky structure; friable, nonsticky, nonplastic; moderately smeary; common very fine, fine, and coarse roots throughout, and few medium roots throughout; few very fine tubular and pores ; 10 percent subangular gravel; extremely acid (pH 4.3); abrupt smooth boundary

2Bw1--30 to 50 cm; very gravelly loam, pale brown (10YR 6/3) dry, brown (10YR 4/3) moist; moderate fine subangular blocky structure; friable, nonsticky, nonplastic; nonsmeary; few very fine roots throughout; common very fine tubular pores; silt coats; 5 percent subangular cobbles by volume, 35 percent subangular gravel; very strongly acid (pH 4.8); clear smooth boundary
