TYPICAL PEDON: Outuchiwenat gravelly sandy loam on a south-southwest-facing, linear, concave mountain backslope, on a slope of 48 percent at an elevation of 764 m (The soil was moist throughout when described on July 18, 2012.)

A1--0 to 7 cm; gravelly sandy loam, grayish brown (10YR 5/2) dry, very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) moist; weak fine granular structure; soft, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common very fine and fine roots; 20 percent gravel; very strongly acid (pH 4.5); clear smooth boundary

A2--7 to 60 cm; very gravelly sandy loam, brown (10YR 5/3) dry, dark brown (10YR 3/3) moist; weak medium granular structure; slightly hard, friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common very fine and many fine roots; 35 percent gravel and 10 percent cobbles; very strongly acid (pH 5.0); clear smooth boundary

2Bw--60 to 78 cm; extremely gravelly sandy loam, light yellowish brown (10YR 6/4) dry, dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) moist; weak medium subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common very fine and fine roots; 60 percent gravel and 10 percent cobbles; moderately acid (pH 5.7); clear wavy boundary
