TYPICAL PEDON: Picnicpoint peat in a tidal marsh on a slope of 0 percent at an elevation of 4 m (The soil was wet throughout the profile when described on July 23, 2007.)

Oi1--0 to 70 cm; peat, pale brown (10YR 6/3) dry, brown (10YR 4/3) moist; many very fine and fine and common medium roots; strongly acid (pH 5.3); diffuse wavy boundary

W--70 to 120 cm; water; diffuse smooth boundary

Oi2--120 to 160 cm; peat, light yellowish brown (10YR 6/4) dry, dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) moist; moderately acid (pH 5.7); diffuse smooth boundary

Cg--160 to 180 cm; silt loam, light brownish gray (2.5Y 6/2) dry, dark grayish brown (2.5Y 4/2) moist; massive; slightly hard, firm, nonsticky and nonplastic; moderately acid (pH 5.9)

TYPE LOCATION: Dillingham Census Area, Alaska, about 10 km east-southeast of the city of Dillingham; latitude 58.9966667 degrees north, longitude 158.2916667 degrees west, datum WGS 84 (coordinates determined with a GPS)
