POND CREEK SERIES

The Pond Creek series consists of very deep, well drained soils that formed in calcareous loamy material high in silt and very fine sand which was derived from a combination of loess, alluvium, residuum from red beds. These soils occur on paleoterraces on broad uplands in the Central Rolling Red Prairies (MLRA 80A). Slopes range from 0 to 8 percent. Mean annual air temperature is 16 degrees C (61 degrees F), and annual precipitation is 813 mm (32 in).

Bt1--56 to 76 cm (22 to 30 in); reddish brown (5YR 4/3) silty clay loam, dark reddish brown (5YR 3/3) moist; moderate fine subangular blocky structure; hard, firm; many distinct clay films on faces of peds; neutral; gradual smooth boundary.

Bt2--76 to 117 cm (30 to 46 in); reddish brown (5YR 4/3) silty clay loam, dark reddish brown (5YR 3/3) moist; strong medium subangular blocky structure; hard, firm; many distinct clay films on faces of peds; neutral; gradual smooth boundary. (Combined thickness of the Bt horizon is 25 to 76 cm [10 to 30 in])

BC--117 to 152 cm (46 to 60 in); reddish brown (5YR 4/4) silty clay loam, dark reddish brown (5YR 3/4) moist; weak medium subangular blocky structure; hard, firm; neutral; gradual smooth boundary. (Thickness of the BC horizon is 25 to 51 cm [10 to 20 in])

BCk--152 to 173 cm (60 to 68 in); reddish brown (5YR 4/4) silty clay loam, dark reddish brown (5YR 3/4) moist; massive; hard, firm; slightly alkaline; few fine calcium carbonate concretions.
