REXVILLE SERIES
The Rexville series consists of very deep, somewhat poorly drained, very slowly permeable soils that formed in loamy alluvium of Holocene age. These nearly level soils occur on flats on river and stream terraces on the coastal plains. Slope ranges from 0 to 1 percent. Mean annual precipitation is about 1092 mm (43 in), and mean annual air temperature is about 20.6 degrees C (69 degrees F).
TAXONOMIC CLASS: Fine-loamy, siliceous, active, hyperthermic Typic Epiaqualfs
TYPICAL PEDON: Rexville fine sandy loam, in an area of Kuy-Rexville complex, 0 to 1 percent slopes; elevation is 47 m (156 ft). (Colors are for moist soil unless otherwise stated.)
A1--0 to 41 cm, (0 to 16 in); dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2) fine sandy loam; weak fine subangular blocky structure; friable; common fine roots throughout; common very fine interstitial and many fine interstitial pores; few crawfish krotovina; 6 percent fine distinct dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/6) masses of oxidized iron with sharp boundaries lining pores; strongly acid; gradual wavy boundary. (Combined thickness of the A horizons is 33 to 76 cm [13 to 30 in])
A2--41 to 59 cm, (16 to 23 in); grayish brown (10YR 5/2) fine sandy loam; weak fine subangular blocky structure; friable; many very fine roots throughout; many very fine tubular pores; few crawfish krotovina; 7 percent fine distinct brownish yellow (10YR 6/6) masses of oxidized iron with sharp boundaries lining pores; strongly acid; clear smooth boundary.
Bt1--59 to 115 cm, (23 to 45 in); gray (10YR 5/1) clay loam; weak fine prismatic structure parts to weak fine subangular blocky; firm; common very fine roots throughout; common fine tubular pores; few crawfish krotovina; 5 percent distinct clay films on all faces of peds and 6 percent distinct clay films on all faces of peds; 10 percent medium faint gray (N 6/) iron depletions with clear boundaries in matrix surrounding redox concentrations and 15 percent medium prominent brownish yellow (10YR 6/8) masses of oxidized iron with sharp boundaries in matrix; slightly acid; gradual wavy boundary.
Bt2--115 to 135 cm, (45 to 63 in); gray (10YR 6/1) clay loam; weak fine prismatic structure parts to weak fine subangular blocky; firm; few very fine roots; few very fine tubular pores; 4 percent distinct clay films on all faces of peds and 5 percent distinct clay films on all faces of peds; 1 percent fine prominent red (2.5YR 4/6) masses of oxidized iron with sharp boundaries in matrix and 1 percent fine strong brown (7.5YR 4/6) ironstone nodules and 3 percent medium faint gray (N 6/) iron depletions with clear boundaries in matrix surrounding redox concentrations and 3 percent fine black (10YR 2/1) iron-manganese nodules and 20 percent medium prominent brownish yellow (10YR 6/8) masses of oxidized iron with sharp boundaries in matrix; neutral; gradual smooth boundary. (Combined thickness of the Bt horizons is 126 to 170 cm [50 to 67 in])
Bt3--135 to 203 cm, (63 to 80 in); gray (10YR 6/1) clay loam; weak fine prismatic structure parts to weak fine subangular blocky; firm; 4 percent distinct clay films on all faces of peds and 5 percent distinct clay films on all faces of peds; 2 percent fine irregular black (10YR 2/1) iron-manganese nodules and 4 percent medium faint gray (N 6/) iron depletions with clear boundaries in matrix surrounding redox concentrations and 12 percent medium prominent brownish yellow (10YR 6/6) masses of oxidized iron with sharp boundaries in matrix; electrical conductivity is 1.1; sodium adsorption ratio is 11; slightly alkaline.
TYPE LOCATION: Austin County, TX; from the intersection of Texas Highway 36 and FM 1093 in Wallis, Texas, about 4 miles west on FM 1093 to private ranch road; 2.1 miles west, then 0.3 mile north, then 2.1 miles northwest, then 0.4 mile northeast, then 0.4 mile northwest on a low flat in rangeland.

Used for rangeland and wildlife habitat. Native vegetation consists of bluestems, paspalums, and sedges.
