TYPE LOCATION: Siskiyou County, California; about 6 miles northwest of McCloud, 1.25 miles southwest of Everitt Hill summit and 500 feet southeast of a microwave repeater; 300 feet south and 2,150 feet west of the northeast corner of sec. 30, T. 40 N., R. 3 W. Shasta SW (McCloud) quadrangle (7.5 minute series).
RANGE IN CHARACTERISTICS: The depth to a lithic contact of hard fractured basalt or andesite is 20 to 40 inches. The mean annual soil temperature is 42 to 46 degrees F. The soil exceeds 47 degrees F. from mid July to mid September and exceeds 41 degrees F. from early April to mid November. The soil moisture control section (12 to 35 inches) is usually dry from early July until mid October (90 to 110 days) and is moist in some or all parts the rest of the year. Base saturation is less than 20 percent throughout the profile.
The A horizon color is 10YR 5/3, 5/2, 5/1, 4/3, 4/2, 4/1, 3/3 or 3/2. Moist color is 10YR 3/3, 3/2, 2/2, or 7.5YR 3/3. Rock fragments, mostly gravel or cobbles, range from 5 to 15 percent. Reaction ranges from strongly acid to slightly acid.
The Bw horizon color is 10YR 5/3, 5/2, 4/4, 4/3, 4/2 or 3/4. Moist color is 10YR 5/3, 4/3, 4/2, 3/4, 3/3, 3/2. It is sandy loam or fine sandy loam with rock fragments, mostly gravel or cobbles, ranging from 10 to 35 percent by volume. Reaction ranges from strongly acid to slightly acid.
The C horizon color is 10YR 6/4, 5/4, 5/3. Moist color is 10YR 3/4, 4/4 or 7.5YR 4/4. Rock fragments mostly cobbles and stones range from 75 to 90 percent by volume.

COMPETING SERIES: There are no competing series in this family.
GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: Revit soils are on mountains at elevations of 4,500 to 6,000 feet. Slopes are 2 to 30 percent. The climate is subhumid with warm dry summers and cold moist winters. Mean annual precipitation is 45 to 60 inches. Snow usually covers the higher elevations from late November to late March. Mean January air temperature is 26 degrees to 34 degrees F.; Mean July air temperature ranges from 58 to 68 degrees F.; mean annual temperature ranges from 38 to 45 degrees F. Frost-free period is 75 to 115 days.
GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These are Kindig, Neuns, Neer, Ponto and Shasta soils. Kindig and Neuns soils have ochric epipedons, skeletal control sections and mean annual soil temperatures of 47 degrees F. or higher. Neer soils have a mean annual soil temperature of 47 to 52 degrees F. Ponto soils are deep, have ochric epipedons, and have mean annual soil temperatures of 47 degrees F. or higher. Shasta soils are deep, are dominated by pyroclastic material, have ashy control sections, and mean have annual soil temperatures of 47 degrees F. or higher.
DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Somewhat excessively drained, slow to rapid runoff, moderately rapid permeability.
USE AND VEGETATION: Commercial conifer production and browse for wildlife. Vegetation is knobcone pine, white fir, ponderosa pine, incense-cedar, whitethorn ceanothus, snowbrush ceanothus and pine manzanita.
DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: Northeastern California. The series is of moderate extent. MLRA is 22.
