Btn--7 to 20 centimeters; yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) silty clay loam, brown (10YR 4/3) moist; moderate fine subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, friable, moderately sticky, moderately plastic; many very fine and fine roots and common medium roots throughout; many very fine and fine tubular pores; 2 percent faint clay films on all faces of peds; slightly effervescent; strongly alkaline (pH 9.0); gradual smooth boundary.

Btz1--20 to 35 centimeters; yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) silty clay loam, dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) moist; moderate medium subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, friable, moderately sticky, moderately plastic; common very fine, fine, and medium roots throughout; common very fine and fine tubular pores; 5 percent faint clay films on faces of peds and on surfaces along root channels; 2 percent fine masses of oxidized iron in matrix 15 percent salt crystals in matrix; slightly effervescent; moderately alkaline (pH 8.2); gradual smooth boundary.

Btz2--35 to 93 centimeters; yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) silty clay loam, dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) moist; moderate coarse subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, friable, very sticky, very plastic; common very fine and fine roots throughout; common very fine and fine tubular pores; 5 percent clay films on faces of peds and on surfaces along root channels; 20 percent salt crystals in matrix; slightly effervescent; moderately alkaline (pH 8.1); gradual smooth boundary.

USE AND VEGETATION:
Saltwells soils are primarily used for rangeland. The potential native vegetation is Gardener's saltbush, bottlebrush squirreltail, greasewood, seepweed, tansy mustard, Indian ricegrass, basin wildrye, and western wheatgrass.

DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT:
Saltwells soils are of small extent in southwestern Wyoming; MLRA 34A.
