Shoba series are on hills and mountain sideslopes and have slopes of 2 to 50 percent. The mean annual precipitation is about 260 millimeters (10 inches) and the mean annual temperature is about 16.5 degrees C. (62 degrees F.).

(13 to 23 centimeters; 5 to 9 inches thick)
Bt3--43 to 69 centimeters (17 to 27 inches); brown (7.5YR 5/2) cobbly clay, brown (7.5YR 4/2) with coatings of dark reddish brown (5YR 3/4) moist; moderate medium and coarse prismatic structure; extremely hard, friable, very sticky and very plastic; few very fine roots; few very fine tubular pores; common faint clay films on ped faces and in pores; few common pressure faces; 20 percent cobbles and 5 percent gravel; moderately alkaline (pH 8.0); gradual wavy boundary. (20 to 30 centimeters; 8 to 12 inches thick)
Bt4--69 to 94 centimeters (27 to 37 inches); brown (7.5YR 5/4, 10YR 5/3) cobbly clay, dark brown (7.5YR 3/4, 10YR 3/3) moist; strong medium and coarse prismatic structure; extremely hard, friable, very sticky and very plastic; few very fine roots; few very fine tubular pores; many faint clay films on ped faces and in pores; 15 percent cobbles and 5 percent gravel; moderately alkaline (pH 8.0); abrupt wavy boundary. (20 to 30 centimeters; 8 to 12 inches thick)
2R--94 centimeters (37 inches); hard andesite with fractures 20 to 30 centimeters (8 to 12 inches) apart. The upper 5 centimeters (2 inches) are slightly weathered.
