TYPICAL PEDON: Sintuf very channery ashy sandy loam - forested (ponderosa pine, western juniper) on a 2 percent, slightly convex south facing slope; at 1610 meters elevation. (Colors are for air dry soil unless otherwise noted.)

Oi--0 to 3 cm; slightly decomposed needles and twigs

A--3 to 8 cm; brown (10YR 4/3) very channery ashy sandy loam, very dark brown (10YR 2/2) moist; weak thin platy structure; soft, friable, non-sticky and non-plastic; many very fine and fine roots; many very fine and fine interstitial pores; 40 percent channers and 5 percent flagstones; moderately acid (pH 6.0); abrupt smooth boundary. (3 to 8 cm thick)

Bw--8 to 20 cm; brown (10YR 4/3) very channery ashy loam, very dark brown (10YR 2/2) moist; moderate thick platy structure parting to moderate fine subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; many very fine, fine and medium roots; many very fine dendritic tubular pores; 30 percent channers and 10 percent flagstones; moderately acid (pH 5.8); abrupt wavy boundary. (10 to 15 centimeters thick)

2Bt--20 to 43 cm; brown (10YR 4/3) extremely stony silty clay loam, very dark brown (10YR 2/2) moist; strong fine and medium subangular blocky structure; hard, firm, moderately sticky and moderately plastic; common fine, medium and coarse roots; many very fine and fine dendritic tubular pores; many thin clay films bridging sand grains and lining pores; 10 percent channers, 25 percent flagstones and 50 percent stones; moderately acid (pH 6.0); clear wavy boundary. (18 to 30 centimeters thick)

2R--43 cm; fractured rhyolitic tuff; indurated
