TYPICAL PEDON: Steeplerock very cobbly coarse sand on alluvial terrace with slope of 5 percent and elevation of 820 m. (The soil was moist throughout when described)

A--0 to 5 cm; brown (7.5YR 5/3) dry, brown (7.5YR 5/2) very cobbly sand; single grain structure; loose, loose, non-sticky, non-plastic; few very fine and fine roots; many fine interstitial pores; 25 percent gravel, 30 percent cobbles; very strongly acid (pH 4.6); abrupt smooth boundary

C1--5 to 30 cm; gray (10YR 5/1) dry, very dark gray (10YR 3/1) extremely gravely fine sand; single grain structure; loose, loose, non-sticky, non-plastic; many fine interstitial pores; 50 percent gravel, 25 percent cobbles, 5 percent stones, very strongly acid (pH 4.8); clear smooth boundary

C2--30 to 150 cm; gray (10YR 5/1) dry, very dark gray (10YR 3/1) extremely gravely fine sand; single grain structure; loose, loose, non-sticky, non-plastic; many fine interstitial pores; 50 percent gravel, 20 percent cobbles, 5 percent stones, 5 percent boulders; very strongly acid (pH 4.8)
