TYPICAL PEDON: Terence stony ashy sandy loam under a coniferous forest, on a 35-percent, northwest-facing slope at an elevation of 1400 m (The soil was dry when described. All textures are apparent field textures.)

A--3 to 15 cm; stony ashy sandy loam, yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) dry, dark brown (10YR 3/3) moist; single grain; loose; common very fine and fine roots; 20 percent gravel, 5 percent cobbles, and 5 percent surface stones; NaF pH 10.5; moderately acid (pH 5.8); clear wavy boundary
Bw1--15 to 36 cm; very cobbly ashy loam, yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) dry, dark yellowish brown (10YR 3/4) moist; weak fine granular structure; soft, very friable, nonsticky and slightly plastic; weakly smeary; common fine and medium roots; many very fine and fine irregular pores; 35 percent gravel and 25 percent cobbles; NaF pH 10.2; moderately acid (pH 5.8); gradual wavy boundary

TYPE LOCATION: Kittitas County, Washington, about 1 km northeast of Lost Lake; about 670 m north and 320 m west of the southeast corner of section 27, T. 18 N., R. 15 E.; Frost Mountain, Washington, U.S. Geological Survey quadrangle; latitude 47 degrees, 1 minute, 6 seconds north and longitude 120 degrees, 56 minutes, 34 seconds west
