TYPE LOCATION: Sublette County, Wyoming; NE4, SW4, Sec. 33, T30N, R108W.
RANGE IN CHARACTERISTICS: The mean annual soil temperature is 36 inches to 47 inches F. The mean summer soil temperature is 59 degrees to 62 degrees F. Depth to the cemented sand and gravel is 10 to 20 inches. These soils are noncalcareous. Depth to the base of the B2t is 10 to 20 inches. The A1 horizon has hue of 2.5Y or 10YR; value of 5 or 6 dry, 3 or 4 moist; and chroma of 2 or 3 dry and moist. It is sandy loam or fine sandy loam. It is slightly acid or neutral. The B2t horizon has hue of 10YR or 7.5YR.; value of 5 or 6 dry, 4 or 5 moist; and chroma of 3 or 4 dry and 2 or 3 moist. It is sandy clay loam, averaging between 20 and 26 percent clay and more than 35 percent fine sand or coarser . Gravel is very fine and ranges from 10 to 20 percent. It is neutral or mildly alkaline.
COMPETING SERIES: There are no known series in the same subgroup and family. Similar series is the tentative Relsob series. Relsob soils have similar sola over weathered arkosic very fine gravel and sand.
GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: Tigon soils are on ridgecrests and upper sidehill slopes. Slopes are 6 to 30 percent. They formed in residuum weathered from cemented arkosic sand and very fine gravel. The mean annual temperature is 34 degrees to 45 F. Precipitation is 10 to 12 inches. Elevation is 6,000 to 7,300 feet. The growing season is 80 to 110 days, but frost may occur in any month.
GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These are the tentative Bluerim soils. Bluerim soils have calcareous sandy shale at depths of 20 to 40 inches, and they are on the lower sidehill slopes.
DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Well drained; slow runoff; moderate permeability.
USE AND VEGETATION: Used for rangeland and wildlife habitat. Vegetation is Indian ricegrass, canby bluegrass, thickspike wheatgrass, and big sagebrush.
DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: Southwestern Wyoming. The series is inextensive.
