TYPICAL PEDON: Tnuun ashy sandy loam in an area of forestland, on a 16-percent, southwest-facing slope at an elevation of 1450 m (All textures are apparent field textures.)

Oi--0 to 5 cm; slightly decomposed needles, twigs, and cones mixed with a small amount of 1980 Mount St. Helens volcanic ash; abrupt smooth boundary

A--5 to 10 cm; ashy sandy loam, brown (10YR 5/3) dry, very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) moist; moderate fine subangular blocky structure; soft, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; weakly smeary; common fine, medium, and coarse roots; common very fine irregular pores; 10 percent gravel; strongly acid (pH 5.5), NaF pH 9.8; clear smooth boundary
