Trove soils are on mountain slopes and have slopes of 15 to 40 percent. The mean annual precipitation is about 16 inches (41 cm) and the mean annual air temperature is about 41 degrees F (5.0 degrees C).

TAXONOMIC CLASS: Fine-loamy over sandy or sandy-skeletal, mixed, superactive, frigid Calcic Argixerolls

(5 to 7 inches (13 to 18 cm) thick)

Bt2--8 to 14 inches (20 to 36 cm); brown (10YR 4/3) gravelly clay loam, dark brown (10YR 3/3) moist; moderate medium angular blocky structure; slightly hard, firm, moderately sticky and moderately plastic; few fine roots; few fine tubular pores; continuous distinct clay films; 30 percent gravel; noneffervescent; neutral (pH 7.0); clear wavy boundary. (5 to 14 inches (13 to 36 cm) thick)

Bt3--14 to 19 inches (36 to 48 cm); brown (7.5YR 5/3) very gravelly loam, brown (7.5YR 4/4) moist; weak medium angular blocky structure; soft, friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; few fine roots; few fine tubular pores; very few faint clay films on all faces of peds; 35 percent gravel; noneffervescent; neutral (pH 7.0); clear wavy boundary. (0 to 5 inches (0 to 12 cm) thick)

2Bk--19 to 33 inches (49 to 84 cm); pinkish gray (7.5YR 6/2) gravelly sand, brown (7.5YR 4/4) moist; single grain; loose, nonsticky and nonplastic; extremely coarse dendritic moderately cemented carbonate nodules; 40 percent gravel; strongly effervescent; moderately alkaline (pH 8.4); abrupt wavy boundary. (5 to 14 inches (13 to 36 cm) thick)

R--33 to 37 inches (84 to 94 cm); igneous bedrock.

COMPETING SERIES: This is the Driggs (ID) series. Driggs soils do not have a lithic contact within 60 inches (152 cm).

GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: The Trove soils are at elevations of 7,300 to 8,650 feet (2,230 to 2,633 meters). Slopes are 15 to 40 percent. These soils occur on mountain slopes and formed in colluvium and/or slope alluvium over residuum derived from basic and intermediate igneous rocks. The climate is dry to moist subhumid, the average annual precipitation is 16 to 22 inches (406 to 559 mm). The mean annual air temperature is 38 to 44 degrees F. (3.3 to 6.7 degrees C.), and the frost free period is 70 to 100 days.

GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These are the Henefer, Krueger, Vicking and Watkins Ridge soils. Henefer, Krueger, Vicking and Watkins Ridge soils are deep and lack contrasting sandy or sandy-skeletal horizons within 40 inches (102 cm) of the surface. Also, Henefer and Krueger soils have mollic epipedons more than 20 inches (51 cm) thick, Henefer soils have more than 35 percent clay in the argillic horizon, and Watkins Ridge soils lack an argillic horizon.

DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Well drained; medium to high runoff; moderately slow permeability; moderately high saturated hydraulic conductivity.

USE AND VEGETATION: These soils are used for rangeland. The native vegetation is big sagebrush, antelope bitterbrush, snowberry, serviceberry, squirreltail and spiked wheatgrass.

DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: Central Utah, eastern Sevier County, Mormon Peak area. MLRA 47. The series is inextensive.
