COMPETING SERIES: There are no competing series.
GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: Ubank soils are on fan terraces of undulating plateaus and mesas at elevations of 4,800 to 6,500 feet. These soils formed in mixed calcareous alluvium from sandstone, mudstone, siltstone, and limestone with some influence from quartzite, basalt, and cinders. Slopes range from 1 to 10 percent. The mean annual precipitation is 10 to 14 inches. The mean annual air temperature is 51 to 55 degrees F. The frost-free period is 130 to 165 days.
GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These are the Cerrillos and Barx soils. Cerrillos and Barx soils have argillic horizons and are fine-loamy.
DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Well drained; slow runoff; moderate permeability.
USE AND VEGETATION: Ubank soils are used for livestock grazing, homesite development, recreation, and wildlife habitat. Present vegetation is oneseed juniper, black grama, blue grama, galleta, Indian ricegrass, yucca, Bigelow sagebrush and fourwing saltbush.
DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: Northern Arizona. This series is of moderate extent. MLRA 35.
MLRA SOIL SURVEY REGIONAL OFFICE (MO) RESPONSIBLE: Phoenix, Arizona
SERIES ESTABLISHED: Navajo County, Arizona; Soil survey of Navajo County Area, Arizona, Central Part; 1994.
REMARKS: Diagnostic horizons and features recognized in this pedon are:
