TYPICAL PEDON: Venetie gravelly fine sandy loam on a woodland terrace with a slope of 3 percent and an elevation of 190 m (The soil was moist throughout when described on July 4, 2012.)

Oe--0 to 4 cm; moderately decomposed plant material; many fine roots and common medium roots; slightly acid (pH 6.5); clear smooth boundary

A--4 to 16 cm; gravelly fine sandy loam; 90 percent light gray (10YR 7/2) dry, grayish brown (10YR 5/2) moist, and 10 percent light yellowish brown (10YR 6/4)dry, dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) moist; moderate medium granular structure; soft, very friable; few fine roots and common medium roots; common fine and medium pores; 20 percent gravel; noneffervescent; neutral (pH 7.1); clear smooth boundary

C1--16 to 55 cm; very gravelly loamy sand; light gray (10YR 7/1) dry, gray (10YR 5/1) moist; single grain; loose; common fine roots; few fine and medium pores; 40 percent gravel; noneffervescent; neutral (pH 7.3); gradual wavy boundary

C2--55 to 90 cm; very gravelly fine sand; light gray (10YR 7/1) dry, gray (10YR 5/1) moist; single grain; loose; common fine roots; few fine and medium pores; 40 percent gravel; noneffervescent; neutral (pH 7.3); gradual wavy boundary
