TYPE LOCATION: Sublette County, Wyoming; center of Sec. 13, T31N, R109W.
RANGE IN CHARACTERISTICS: The mean annual soil temperature is 36 to 47 degrees F. The mean summer soil temperature is 59 degrees to 62 degrees F. Depth to the coarse sand is 15 to 20 inches. The soils are noncalcareous above 40 inches. Some pedons have weak calcium carbonate at 50 to 60 inch depths. Very fine gravel is 5 to 15 percent. The control section is sandy loam in the upper part and coarse sand in the lower part. The A1 horizon has hue of 2.5Y or 10YR value of 5 or 6 dry, 4 or 5 moist; and chroma of 2 through 4 dry and moist. It is sandy loam or fine sandy loam. It is slightly acid or neutral. The C horizons have hue of 2.5Y or 10YR. They are neutral or mildly alkaline.
COMPETING SERIES: There are no known series in the same subgroup and family. Similar soils are the tentative Koonich soils. Koonich soils are dry in some part of the soil moisture control section for more than three-fourths of the time.
GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: Vible soils are on nearly level or gently sloping alluvial fans. Slopes are 0 to 6 percent. They formed in noncalcareous sandy alluvium. Mean annual temperature is 34 degrees to 45 degrees F. Precipitation is 10 to 12 inches. Elevation is 6,000 to 7,300 feet. The growing season is 80 to 110 days, but frost may occur in any month.
GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These are the tentative Cothran and tentative Ryark soils. Cothran soils are loamy fine sand or coarser below 10 inches. Ryark soils have argillic horizons.
DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Well drained; slow runoff; rapid permeability.
USE AND VEGETATION: Used for rangeland and wildlife habitat. Vegetation is big sagebrush, needleandthread, thickspike wheatgrass, and Indian ricegrass.
DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: Southwestern Wyoming. The series is inextensive.
