TYPICAL PEDON: Whychus fine sandy loam, forested, on a 1 percent slope at an elevation of 1002 meters. (Colors are for dry soil unless otherwise noted.)

A1--0 to 7 centimeters; fine sandy loam, dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2), black (10YR 2/1) moist; weak fine granular structure; friable, slightly sticky, slightly plastic; many very fine and fine roots ; many fine irregular pores; neutral (pH 6.9); clear smooth boundary

A2--7 to 19 centimeters; fine sandy loam, dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2), black (10YR 2/1) moist; weak fine subangular blocky structure; friable, slightly sticky, nonplastic; many very fine and common roots; many fine irregular pores; neutral (pH 7.0); clear smooth boundary

AC--19 to 49 centimeters; fine sandy loam, dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2), black (10YR 2/1) moist; structureless massive; friable, nonsticky, nonplastic; common fine and very fine and few medium roots; many fine irregular pores; 2 percent dark brown (7.5YR 3/4) masses of oxidized iron and 5 dark brown (7.5YR 3/4) masses of oxidized iron; neutral (pH 7.0); gradual smooth boundary
