USE AND VEGETATION:
Major uses--The area is used for recreational fishing and hunting. Wimico soils provide critical juvenile habitat for fish like striped bass (Morone saxatilis) and red drum (Sciaenops ocellatus).
Typical vegetation--Sub-aquatic vegetation is extensive and dense. Coontail (Ceratophyllum demersum), Southern naiad (Najas guadalupensis), Bladderworts (Utricularia spp.), Watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spp.), and Pondweeds (Potamogeton spp.) are present in healthy waters. Significant stands of invasive Hydrilla (Hydrilla verticillata) can also be present in these soils and impede desired use.

REMARKS:
Typical Pedon Taxonomic Features:
Ochric epipedon--The zone from 0 to 15 centimeters.
Hypersulfidic materials--The zone from 0 to 205 centimeters has a pH of 4.0 or less after 16 weeks of moist aerobic incubation.
Fluidity--The zone from 0 to 159 and 173 to 205 centimeters has a fluidity class of moderately fluid to very fluid.
Sapric soil materials--The zone from 159 to 173 centimeters has a fiber content after rubbing that is less than one-sixth of the original soil volume.
Lithologic discontinuity--At a depth of 159 centimeters.
Peraquic feature--Zero or positive soil water potential at the soil surface (permanently submerged).
Soil temperature regime--Wimico and Blueway soils straddle the boundary between both thermic and hyperthermic temperature regimes. Both soils would be best interpreted as hyperthermic soils, aligning with the nearby and neighboring landscapes and soils (soil correlation decision Special Projects 2026).
Taxonomic Version: Keys to Soil Taxonomy, Thirteenth Edition, 2022. A new taxonomic subgroup could be added to the keys as this soil contains hypersulfidic soil materials.
Other: Named after Lake Wimico, Florida where it was first observed. Wimico soils were previously mapped as water in Florida soil surveys.
