HUSKA SERIES
The Huska series consists of deep, moderately well drained soils that formed in residuum from interbedded shale and sandstone of Permian age. These soils are on crests and upper side slopes of low hills in the Central Rolling Red Prairies (MLRA80A). Slope ranges from 1 to 5 percent. Mean annual air temperature is 15 degrees C (59 degrees F), and mean annual precipitation is 840 mm (33 in).
TAXONOMIC CLASS: Fine, mixed, superactive, thermic Mollic Natrustalfs
TYPICAL PEDON: Huska silt loam--on a 1 percent slope in rangeland, at an elevation of 293 m (962 ft). (Colors are for dry soil unless otherwise stated.)

(Thickness of the Btn horizon is 18 to 28 cm [7 to 11 in])
Btknz--46 to 64 cm (18 to 25 in); reddish brown (5YR 5/4) silty clay loam, reddish brown (5YR 4/4) moist; moderate medium subangular blocky structure; extremely hard, very firm; common faint clay films on faces of peds; few fine faint strong brown (7.5YR 4/6) redoximorphic concentrations with clear boundaries; few fine calcium carbonate concretions; common fine visible threads of salts; exchangeable sodium is 39 percent; slightly effervescent; moderately alkaline; clear smooth boundary. (Thickness of the Btknz horizon is 18 to 46 cm [7 to 18 in])
Btnyz--64 to 86 cm (25 to 34 in); yellowish red (5YR 5/6) clay, yellowish red (5YR 4/6) moist; weak medium blocky structure; extremely hard, very firm; common distinct clay films on faces of peds; many fine irregular threads of salts; few medium crystals of gypsum; exchangeable sodium is 53 percent; slightly effervescent; moderately alkaline; clear smooth boundary. (Thickness of the Btnyz horizon is 23 to 58 cm [9 to 23 in])
B`tn--86 to 127 cm (34 to 50 in); red (2.5YR 5/6) clay, red (2.5YR 4/6) moist; weak fine subangular blocky structure; extremely hard, firm; few faint clay films on faces of peds; exchangeable sodium is 52 percent; slightly effervescent; moderately alkaline; abrupt smooth boundary. (Thickness of the B'tn horizon is 0 to 84 cm [0 to 33 in])
2Cr--127 to 140 cm (50 to 55 in); light gray (5YR 7/1) sandstone; rippable; very slightly effervescent; moderately alkaline.
