Slopes are 4 to 75 percent. The mean annual precipitation is about 300 mm and the mean annual temperature is about 7 degrees C.

(5 to 18 cm thick)

A3--15 to 43 cm; dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2) very gravelly sandy loam, very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) moist; weak medium and coarse granular structure; slightly hard, friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common very fine, medium, and coarse roots; many very fine interstitial pores; 30 percent gravel and 15 percent cobbles; slightly acid (pH 6.5); clear wavy boundary. (0 to 36 cm thick)

AC--43 to 74 cm; grayish brown (10YR 5/2) very gravelly sandy loam, dark brown (10YR 3/3) moist; weak medium and coarse granular structure; slightly hard, friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common fine, medium and coarse roots; common very fine tubular and interstitial pores; very few faint colloid stains on sand grains; 30 percent gravel and 10 percent cobbles slightly acid (pH 6.5); gradual wavy boundary. (18 to 46 cm thick)

C1--74 to 99 cm; grayish brown (2.5Y 5/2) very gravelly sandy loam, olive brown (2.5Y 4/4) moist; massive parting to weak very coarse granular structure; slightly hard, friable, slightly sticky and nonplastic; common very fine and fine and few medium and coarse roots; common very fine tubular and interstitial pores; very few faint colloid stains on sand grains; 30 percent gravel and 15 percent cobbles slightly acid (pH 6.5); gradual wavy boundary. (13 to 58 cm thick)

C2--99 to 130 cm; grayish brown (2.5Y 5/2) very cobbly sandy loam, olive brown (2.5Y 4/4) moist; massive; slightly hard, friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common very fine and fine and few medium and coarse vertical roots; few fine tubular and interstitial pores; 30 percent gravel and 25 percent cobbles slightly acid (pH 6.5); abrupt wavy boundary. (0 to 64 cm thick)

2R--130 to 137 cm; andesite with some fractures.

COMPETING SERIES: These are the Baldridge, Beehunt, Burgi, Chambeam, Climine, Ginser, Lambring, Lonecabin, Rondowa, Shorthike, Sinker, Smidale, Webfoot, Westbutte and Willynat series.

Baldridge and Chambeam soils are dry 45 to 60 days. Beehunt, Lonecabin, Shorthike and Willynat soils lack bedrock between 100 to 178 cm. Burgi, Climine and Smidale and soils have more than 18 percent clay in the particle-size control section. Sinker and Westbutte soils are moderately deep to hard bedrock. Lambring soils have C horizons with hue of 10YR. Rondowa soils are dry less than 90 days. Webfoot soils are saturated at a depth of 30 to 60 cm from March through June.

GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: The Glean soils are on mountain slopes at elevations of 1,370 to 2,500 meters. They formed in colluvium derived from mixed rocks including metamorphic, basalt, and andesite. Slopes are 4 to 75 percent. The climate is cool, semiarid with warm, dry summers and cold, moist winters. Mean annual precipitation is 250 to 400 mm. The mean annual air temperature is 5 to 7 degrees C. The frost-free season is 30 to 45 days and up to 80 days in Nevada.

GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These are the Aldax, Millich, and Trosi soils. Aldax and Millich soils have a lithic contact at depths of less than 50 cm. Trosi soils lack a mollic epipedon and have a duripan.

DRAINAGE AND SATURATED HYDRAULIC CONDUCTIVITY: Well-drained; medium to very rapid runoff; high saturated hydraulic conductivity.

USE AND VEGETATION: Used for livestock grazing. The vegetation is big sagebrush, bitterbrush, scattered Jeffrey pine, cheatgrass, squirreltail, Sandberg bluegrass, Idaho fescue, and basin wildrye.

DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: Northeastern California and northern Nevada. The soils of this series are extensive. MLRAs 26, 25 and 23.
