TYPICAL PEDON: Hoeckers very shelly sandy clay loam, in 79 centimeters (31 inches) of saline water (colors are for moist soil unless stated otherwise)

^Aseg--0 to 28 centimeters (0 to 11 inches); very dark gray (N 3/), very shelly sandy clay loam; massive; 50 percent flat rounded weakly cemented shell fragments; rapid color change and slight effervescence with 3 and 30 percent hydrogen peroxide; electrical conductivity of 20.0 dS/m; moderately alkaline; gradual boundary. (4 to 28 centimeters, 2 to 11 inches thick)

^Cg1--28 to 61 centimeters (11 to 24 inches); dark gray (N 4/), very shelly sandy clay loam; massive; 50 percent flat rounded weakly cemented shell fragments; electrical conductivity of 23.0 dS/m; moderately alkaline; gradual boundary.

^Cg2--61 to 203 centimeters (24 to 80 inches); dark greenish gray (5GY 4/1) shelly sandy clay loam; massive; 25 percent flat rounded weakly cemented shell fragments; electrical conductivity of 19.0 dS/m; moderately alkaline.

Sellman soils--have glauconitic mineralogy, are fine textured throughout and lack shell fragments in any horizon above 2 percent

Bastropbay soils--are sandy throughout, have not formed in dredged materials, and often lack considerable shell fragments--
Jonesbay soils--are fluid throughout and not have more than 15 percent shell fragments
