TYPICAL PEDON: Huss very gravelly medial silt loam on an east-facing, 35-percent, forested slope at an elevation of 1200 m (The soil was moist throughout when described on June 4, 2013.)

Oi--0 to 2 cm; slightly decomposed plant material; abrupt wavy boundary

A--2 to 27 cm; very gravelly medial silt loam, brown (10YR 5/3) dry, dark brown (10YR 3/3) moist; moderate fine granular structure; very friable, slightly sticky and nonplastic; many very fine, common medium and coarse, and few fine roots; many very fine and fine irregular pores and common medium and coarse tubular pores; 25 percent basalt gravel and 15 percent basalt cobbles; strongly acid (pH 5.3); clear wavy boundary

AB--27 to 39 cm; very gravelly medial silt loam, yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) dry, dark yellowish brown (10YR 3/4) moist; moderate fine granular structure; very friable, slightly sticky and nonplastic; many very fine, common medium, and few fine and coarse roots; many very fine dendritic tubular and irregular pores and common fine, medium, and coarse tubular pores; 25 percent basalt gravel and 15 percent basalt cobbles; strongly acid (pH 5.5); clear wavy boundary

Bw--39 to 78 cm; extremely cobbly medial silt loam, light yellowish brown (10YR 6/4) dry, dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) moist; weak medium subangular blocky structure; friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; common very fine and few fine and medium roots; common very fine and fine dendritic tubular pores and common very fine and fine and few medium tubular pores; 35 percent basalt gravel, 30 percent basalt cobbles, and 10 percent basalt stones; moderately acid (pH 5.8); clear wavy boundary

2R--78 cm; highly fractured basalt

TYPE LOCATION: Linn County, Oregon, about 36 km east of Sweet Home and 10 km northeast of the junction of Upper Soda Fork Road and OR Highway 20; about 325 m south and 520 m east of the northwest corner of section 5, T. 13 S., R. 5 E., Willamette Meridian; latitude 44.4721944, longitude -122.2387222, datum WGS 84 (coordinates determined with a GPS)
