TYPICAL PEDON: Mimms silty clay, forested. (Colors are for moist soil.)

A--0 to 10 centimeters (about 0 to 4 inches); grayish brown (2.5Y 5/2) silty clay; moderate medium granular structure; very friable; many fine and medium roots; common fine and medium pores; very strongly acid; clear smooth boundary.

Bg1--10 to 76 centimeters (about 4 to 30 inches); light gray (2.5Y 7/1) silty clay loam; weak medium subangular blocky structure; firm; moderately sticky, moderately plastic; few fine roots; common fine pores; common medium prominent brownish yellow (10YR 6/6) masses of oxidized iron; very strongly acid; gradual wavy boundary. (Combined thickness of Bg horizon is 40 to more than 60 inches.)

Bg2--76 to 155 centimeters (about 30 to 61 inches); light gray (2.5Y 7/1) silty clay; weak medium subangular blocky structure; firm; moderately sticky, moderately plastic; few fine roots; common medium prominent reddish yellow (7.5YR 6/8) and common coarse prominent yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) masses of oxidized iron; very strongly acid; gradual smooth boundary.

Bg3--155 to 168 centimeters (about 61 to 66 inches); light gray (2.5Y 7/1) clay loam; weak medium subangular blocky structure; firm; moderately sticky, moderately plastic; common medium distinct pale yellow (2.5Y 7/4) and common fine prominent brownish yellow (10YR 6/8) masses of oxidized iron; very strongly acid; clear smooth boundary.

2Cg--168 to 203 centimeters (about 66 to 80 inches); light gray (2.5Y 7/2) coarse sand; single grain; loose; very strongly acid.

TYPE LOCATION: Sumter County, South Carolina; 0.5 miles north of Lynches River Road (State Highway 341) on Trinity Lane; about 0.6 miles east, 0.35 miles north, and 0.16 miles southeast on field road; and about 880 feet east-northeast of road. Sardis, South Carolina; USGS 7.5 Minute Quadrangle, NAD83. lat. 34 degrees, 02 minutes, 16.00 seconds N. and long. 79 degrees, 59 minutes, 26.00 seconds W.

Cambic horizon- the zone from 4 inches to a depth of 80 inches
Aquic conditions--the zone from 0 inches to a depth of 80 inches is periodically saturated (endosaturation)
