TYPICAL PEDON: Seclusion very gravelly sandy loam in an area of scrub, on a mountain escarpment, on a slope of 82 percent at an elevation of 19 m (When described on August 29, 2013, the soil was moist from the surface to a depth of 40 cm.)

Oe--0 to 9 cm; moderately decomposed plant material; strongly acid (pH 5.2); clear smooth boundary

AC--9 to 15 cm; very gravelly sandy loam, pale yellow (2.5Y 7/3) dry, light olive brown (2.5Y 5/3) moist; weak fine granular structure; soft, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common very fine, fine, medium, coarse, and very coarse roots throughout; common very fine and fine irregular pores ; 10 percent cobbles and 30 percent gravel; slightly effervescent (HCL, 1N); moderately alkaline (pH 7.9); gradual smooth boundary

C--15 to 40 cm; very gravelly sandy loam, pale yellow (2.5Y 7/3) dry, light olive brown (2.5Y 5/3) moist; single grain; slightly hard, friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common fine and medium roots throughout; common very fine and fine irregular pores; 10 percent cobbles and 35 percent gravel; strongly effervescent (HCL, 1N); strongly alkaline (pH 8.5); clear smooth boundary
