Oa1--0 to 15 cm; muck, black (10YR 2/1) moist, black (N 2/0) dry; moderate medium granular structure; slightly hard, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; 15 percent fiber, 3 percent rubbed; many very fine roots; very strongly acid (pH 4.7); CaCl2 pH (4.0); abrupt irregular boundary

Oa2--15 to 66 cm; muck, black (10YR 2/1) moist, dark brown (7.5YR 3/2) dry; moderate medium granular structure; slightly hard, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; 30 percent fiber, 5 percent rubbed; common very fine roots; very strongly acid (pH 4.8); CaC12 pH (5.0); clear wavy boundary

Oa3--66 to 94 cm; muck, black (10YR 2/1) moist, very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) dry; moderate medium granular structure; slightly hard, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; 20 percent fiber, 5 percent rubbed; common very fine roots; intermittent layer of fine sandy loam volcanic ash, strong brown (7.5YR 4/6) moist, reddish yellow (7.5YR 6/6) dry; very strongly acid (pH 4.9); CaC12 pH (4.7); abrupt smooth boundary

2Bg--94 to 132 cm; loam, very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) moist, grayish brown (2.5Y 5/2) dry; massive; slightly hard, friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; common fine irregular pores; 5 percent gravel; slightly acid (pH 6.3); abrupt smooth boundary

2Cg--132 to 152 cm; gravelly sand, dark gray (N 4/0) moist, gray (N 6/0) dry; single grain; loose; many fine irregular pores; 15 percent gravel; moderately acid (pH 6.0)

Native vegetation--Douglas spirea, redosier dogwood, willow, skunk cabbage, slough sedge, and bulrush; some areas have an overstory of red alder, Sitka spruce, western redcedar, and lodgepole pine
