A--2 to 38 cm; extremely stony ashy sandy loam, brown (10YR 5/3) dry, dark brown (10YR 3/3) moist; weak fine subangular blocky structure; soft, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common very fine to coarse roots; common fine interstitial pores; 10 percent fine gravel, 25 percent medium and coarse gravel, 10 percent cobbles, 10 percent stones, and 5 percent boulders; very strongly acid (pH 4.9); clear wavy boundary

TYPE LOCATION: Pierce County, Washington, at the northern gated closure of West Side Road, about 5 km northeast of the Nisqually Entrance to Mount Rainier National Park; about 230 m south and 580 m west of the northeast corner of section 23, T. 15 N., R. 7 E., Willamette Meridian; Mount Wow, Washington, U.S. Geological Survey quadrangle; latitude 46.77672 degrees north, longitude -121.88403 degrees west, datum WGS 84 (coordinates determined with a GPS)
