TOMBALL SERIES
The Tomball series consists of very deep, poorly drained, very slowly permeable soils that formed in loamy fluviomarine deposits derived from the Willis Formation. These nearly level soils occur in open ended depressions on inland dissected coastal plains. Slope ranges from 0 to 1 percent. Mean annual precipitation is about 1143 mm (45 in), and mean annual air temperature is about 19.5 degrees C (67 degrees F).

TYPICAL PEDON: Tomball loam, in open depression, elevation is 83.8m (275 ft). (Colors are for moist soil unless otherwise stated.)
A--0 to 20 cm, (0 to 8 in); dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2) loam; weak fine subangular blocky structure; friable; many very fine roots and common fine roots; common very fine tubular and many fine interstitial pores; few crawfish krotovinas; 5 percent fine distinct dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/6) masses of oxidized iron with sharp boundaries lining pores; strongly acid; clear smooth boundary. (18 to 36 cm [7 to 14 in] thick)
E--20 to 45 cm, (8 to 18 in); grayish brown (10YR 5/2) loam; weak fine subangular blocky structure; friable; common very fine roots; many very fine tubular pores; few crawfish krotovinas; 3 percent fine and medium distinct dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) manganese coatings with clear boundaries in matrix and 5 percent fine distinct dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/6) masses of oxidized iron with sharp boundaries lining pores; moderately acid; clear smooth boundary. (15 to 35 cm [6 to 14 in] thick)
Bt1--45 to 77 cm, (18 to 30 in); dark gray (10YR 4/1) clay loam; moderate medium subangular blocky structure; friable; common very fine roots; common very fine tubular pores; common crawfish krotovinas; 15 percent clay films; 3 percent fine distinct black (10YR 2/1) manganese masses with sharp boundaries in matrix and 5 percent fine prominent dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/6) iron-manganese masses with sharp boundaries lining pores; moderately acid; clear smooth boundary. (Combined thickness of the Bt horizons is 56 to 102 cm {22 to 40 in])

SERIES PROPOSED: Waller County, Texas, 2018. The name is from a town in Harris County.
REMARKS: The series was formerly included in the Gessner and Waller series. The series was separated based on geology, landform, and MLRA. Gessner and Waller soils are on the Lissie Formation. Gessner soils are in oval depressions and Waller soils are on flats. In addition, Waller soils are in MLRA 152B (Western Gulf Coast Flatwoods)
