TYPICAL PEDON: Wisalilwala silt loam in an area of rangeland, on a 2-percent, north-facing drainage bottom at an elevation of 365 m (All textures are apparent field textures.)

A1--0 to 23 cm; silt loam, grayish brown (10YR 5/2) dry, very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) moist; moderate fine granular structure; soft, very friable, slightly sticky and nonplastic; common fine and very fine roots; common very fine irregular pores; 5 percent gravel; neutral (pH 6.6); abrupt smooth boundary

A2--23 to 61 cm; loam, brown (10YR 5/3) dry, very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) moist; weak medium subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; common fine and medium roots; common fine and few medium irregular pores; 10 percent gravel; neutral (pH 6.6); abrupt smooth boundary

Wisalil is the Yakama word for hunt, and wala is the Yakama word for creek. Hunt Creek is in the vicinity of the type location for this series. The series originally was named the Cooscanyon series.
