TYPICAL PEDON: Wipple cobbly clay loam under a cover of grasses, on a 40-percent, southwest-facing slope at an elevation of 730 m (The soil was dry when described.)

A--0 to 18 cm; cobbly clay loam, brown (10YR 5/3) dry, dark brown (10YR 3/3) moist; moderate fine granular structure; soft, very friable, nonsticky and slightly plastic; many very fine roots; 10 percent gravel and 25 percent cobbles; neutral (pH 7.0); clear wavy boundary

BA--18 to 28 cm; very gravelly clay loam, brown (10YR 4/3) dry, dark brown (10YR 3/3) moist; weak fine subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, friable, nonsticky and slightly plastic; common very fine and fine roots; few very fine tubular pores; 30 percent gravel and 10 percent cobbles; slightly alkaline (pH 7.5); abrupt smooth boundary

Bt1--28 to 38 cm; very gravelly clay, dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) dry, dark yellowish brown (10YR 3/4) moist; strong medium prismatic structure; very hard, very firm, moderately sticky and very plastic; common very fine and fine roots; few very fine irregular pores; many prominent clay films on faces of peds; 30 percent gravel and 10 percent cobbles; slightly alkaline (pH 7.5); clear wavy boundary

Bt2--38 to 76 cm; very cobbly clay, brown (7.5YR 4/4) dry, dark brown (7.5YR 3/4) moist; strong coarse prismatic structure; very hard, very firm, moderately sticky and very plastic; common very fine roots; continuous prominent clay films on faces of peds; 30 percent gravel and 25 percent cobbles; moderately alkaline (pH 8.0); clear wavy boundary

Btk1--76 to 114 cm; very cobbly clay loam, yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) dry, dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) moist; moderate fine subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; many very fine tubular pores; common faint clay films on faces of peds; slightly effervescent; lime segregated in common fine irregular filaments; 20 percent gravel and 30 percent cobbles; moderately alkaline (pH 8.0); clear wavy boundary

Btk2--114 to 127 cm; extremely cobbly clay loam, yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) dry, dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) moist; weak fine subangular blocky structure; soft, very friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; few faint clay films on faces of peds; strongly effervescent, disseminated lime and coatings of lime on rock fragments; 20 percent gravel and 40 percent cobbles; moderately alkaline (pH 8.0); abrupt smooth boundary

TYPE LOCATION: Kittitas County, Washington, about 3 km east of the confluence of Roza Creek and Yakima River; about 90 m west and 60 m north of the southeast corner of section 14, T. 15 N., R. 19 E.; latitude 46.7815070, longitude -120.4047054, datum WGS 84 (coordinates estimated from section, township, and range)
