GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These are the Canadian, Dale, Lincoln, Kaski, Saxman , Waldeck, Willowbrook , Yaggy , and Zenda soils. The better drained Canadian, and Dale soils do not have contrasting textures and are on higher positions. Kaski, Waldeck, and Zenda soils have contrasting textures at a depth greater than 40 inches (102 centimeters). These soils are on similar positions as Imano soils. The somewhat excessively drained Lincoln soils have contrasting textures at a depth greater than 40 inches (102 centimeters) and are lower on the flood plains. Saxman soils are moderately well drained, on high flood plains and have sandy textures throughout the profile. Willowbrook and Yaggy soils are on floodplains and have sandy textures throughout the profile.
DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Somewhat poorly drained. Runoff is low. Permeability is moderate in the upper part and rapid in the 2C horizon. The water table generally fluctuates between 3 and 6 feet (0.9 to 1.8 meters) below the surface but comes within 2 to 3 feet (0.6 to 0.9 meters) of the surface in wet years. Flooding is frequent or occasional.
USE AND VEGETATION: Mostly used for cultivated crops. Winter wheat and grain sorghum are the principal crops. Native vegetation is mid and tall grasses.
DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: South Central Kansas. LRR H Great Plains Winter Wheat and Range, MLRA 79 Great Bend Sand Plains. This series is of small extent.
MLRA SOIL SURVEY REGIONAL OFFICE (MO) RESPONSIBLE: Denver, Colorado
SERIES ESTABLISHED: Reno County, Kansas, 1999.
REMARKS: Diagnostic horizons and features recognized in this pedon are:
mollic epipedon: The zone from 0 to 10 inches (0 to 25 centimeters). (Ap)
Water table: The presence of an apparent water table from 2.0 to 4.0 feet (0.6 to 1.2 meters) during the months of Mar. - Jun.
Keys to Soil Taxonomy: Eighth edition, 1998
ADDITIONAL DATA: There is also a protected flooding phase for this soil.
Imano was formerly mapped as Lesho - although Lesho was established as a series on the Arkansas River in Kansas, it will remain as the thermic counter to Imano.
