TYPICAL PEDON: Nolitna stratified very fine sand-loamy very fine sand on a woodland dune with a slope of 2 percent and an elevation of 135 m (The soil was moist throughout when described on August 28, 2014.)

Oe--0 to 2 cm; moderately decomposed plant material; moderately acid (pH 6.0); clear smooth boundary

A/E--2 to 15 cm; stratified very fine sand, loamy very fine sand; 80 percent very pale brown (10YR 7/3) dry, brown (10YR 5/3) moist, and 20 percent light yellowish brown (2.5Y 6/4) dry, olive brown (2.5Y 4/4) moist; weak, fine granular structure; loose; 5 percent strong brown (7.5YR 5/6) moist, mottles in matrix and 10 percent light gray (10YR 7/2) moist, mottles in matrix; noneffervescent; slightly acid (pH 6.2); clear wavy boundary

AC--15 to 32 cm; stratified very fine sand, loamy very fine sand; yellow (10YR 7/6) dry, yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) moist; weak, fine granular structure; loose; 5 percent yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) moist, mottles in matrix; noneffervescent; neutral (pH 6.8); diffuse smooth boundary

C1--32 to 100 cm; stratified fine sand, loamy fine sand; pale brown (10YR 6/3) dry, brown (10YR 4/3) moist; single grain; loose; noneffervescent; neutral (pH 7.3)

C2--100 to 150 cm; stratified fine sand, loamy fine sand; light brownish gray (10YR 6/2) dry, dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2) moist; single grain; loose; noneffervescent; slightly alkaline (pH 7.8)
